STATEMENT FROM BRIAN GRIFFITHS ON THE GAS TAX INCREASE
STATEMENT FROM BRIAN GRIFFITHS ON THE GAS TAX INCREASE:
Governor Wes Moore and I may not agree on much, but we agree that Maryland's yearly automatic gas tax is bad for working Marylanders.
Governor Moore said "I just feel like we’ve got to do better for working families in the state of Maryland" and that the General Assembly needs to address the issue of this gas tax. I could not agree more.
Since 2013, Marylanders have suffered from automatic gas tax increases every year. Over that time, the gas tax increased from 23 cents per gallon to a whopping 47 cents per gallon. The gas tax has more than doubled in just ten years.
I urge Governor Moore to call for a Special Session of the General Assembly so legislative Democrats can repeal the automatic increases and roll back the gas tax to 2013 levels in order to give Marylanders a much-needed break in the wallet when they fill up at the pump.
